A few weeks ago I got in contact with the amazing tenor and host of the hit USA tv show Ireland with Michael, Michael Londra, to ask him all about what his townland means to him. Here is a few of his answers

1.What townland are you from originally?
Whitemill South, a tiny part of Wexford town

2. Do you still live there now?
I live in the US now

3. If so, what do you love most about it?
No.

4. If not, what do you miss most about it?
I miss the people more than anything. the easy way of life. Wexford is in my bones. I have been an ambassador for the toe town and county for a long time. Still am.

5. What was it like growing up there?
while I had a great childhood, I certainly dreamed of adventure. Not sure i quite fit in there as a kid. I feel like I belong more as an adult. I get home a lot. About 8 times a year, these days. There is nothing like crossing the bridge into the town. unique with customs, a language and accent all of its own.

6. Do you have any stories that capture the essence of your townland? (Funny memories, local folklore, sporting rivalries, local characters etc)
The townslands of Wexford are certainly unique. We moved to different townslands as kids. Whitemill once rural was newly part of the town when I was growing. Now it is very much part of the town. It revolved around the church and sport. I was into music so it meant going to other parts of the town. Still with a lot of townslands, they all form Wexford which I believe to be one of the most unique places in Ireland

7. 3 words to describe your townland....
evolving, improving, changing

8. If your townland could talk, what would it say?
It would sing. We are all singers in Wexford.
